The next evening at the cabin was, to say the very least, tense. The emotions in the air were so thick you didn't have to cut them, they would have just melted and dripped all over you. Despite Dylan's efforts, there was a small Christmas tree in the family room of the cabin, gaily lit with white lights that twinkled in the dim room.

The large fireplace that nearly dominated half the wall bathed the room in warmth and flickering light, highlighting the rigid occupants of the room. Lleu and Dylan sat across from each other on separate couches. Lleu's eyes were glued to the fire while Dylan's were glaring at his brother. Matty was sitting next to the older twin, his fingers running back and forth over the back of Dylan's neck as he tried to calm him down. Nick was in the kitchen, finishing up making some cookies for everyone. Meme was curled up on the loveseat that helped make a half-circle out of the furniture. Their mother hadn't shown up yet, the time difference between the Mist and the real world making it so difficult to judge when she would be able to arrive.

They hadn't heard from James so they didn't know if their pops had come back or if their father was conscious. They weren't keeping their hopes up that any of their parents were going to make it for Christmas, let alone Christmas Eve. So they had gathered together to do the family thing but it seemed the family thing involved wanting to tear each other's throats out.

The air around them tightened suddenly, almost pressing down on them painfully for the briefest of moments before it snapped and released. A portal somewhere had opened. Although Meme would have wanted it to believe it was their mother no one moved except Patty and a few other wolves.

Just because something supernatural was going on didn't mean it was friendly.

"Cookies are done and I brought hot chocolate for everyone." Nick came in with a large tray in his hands, "I even shaved some dark chocolate on top."

Lleu tilted his head, ignoring Nick as he searched the newcomer for emotions. He breathed out a sigh of relief.

"It's mom." He confirmed to his siblings and the wolves that were about to exit the room to investigate.

"Really?" Meme perked right up and her large brown eyes having the shine of unshed tears.

Dylan's mood also seemed to shift slightly. "I bet she's going to wonder what the fuck is up with all of us."

Lleu's lips twitched in a momentary smile as he took a cup of hot chocolate from his lover. "She won't ask. Just smack us upside the head and tell us to change our attitudes immediately."

"Your mom is of the smacking sort?" Nick's nervousness was apparent as he put the tray down after Matty also grabbed one of the hot drinks and cookies as well.

"She's not so bad." Meme smiled as she lunged for the sweets.

Lleu reached out a hand and grabbed Nick's, pulling him towards the couch next to him. "No, not bad at all. Just a bit . . . strict sometimes." His smile widened and he didn't move his eyes from the mug in front of him as he felt the presence behind him. "Love you mama."

"I was cursed with the most vexing children." Lelandra said with a sniff as she brushed her long, thick mane of hair over her shoulder. Her skin was tan much like Dylan's but those deep brown eyes were only a match to Meme's.

The single girl sibling was out of her seat and across the room, tossing herself into her mother's abnormally long but warm waiting arms. "It's been a mess here!"

Lleu was the only one that held very little similarities to their mother. Squeezing Nick's hand, he placed his mug on a side table and pushed away from the couch, turning to his mother to see her kiss the top of Meme's head.

"Been a while mama." He said quietly, shifting from foot to foot as if he was hesitant to hug his mother. He was suddenly filled with an overwhelming longing to curl himself around his mother and cry into her shoulder. He swallowed it down, giving her a shy smile. "We're glad you were able to make it."

"All my kits in one place, willingly, some what behaving, I could not waste the opportunity." She smiled and held out her right arm to allow him into the tight hug.

Dylan had turned his gaze to Nick who looked damn near as twitchy as Lleu but for different reasons. It would have been too easy to just punch the man out and stomp off, but he would behave for Lleu's sake and the rest of the family . . . for now.

Lleu walked around the couch and quickly buried himself under his mother's arm. He nuzzled his mother's neck, shivering at the emotions in the room. From Dylan's overwhelming fury towards Nick to Nick's nervousness and anxiety towards Lelandra. "I don't know why you wouldn't think we weren't behaving." He teased his mother lightly, his tone strained. He had one arm wrapped around his mother and the other around his sister. After a moment's pause, he lifted his head from Lelandra's shoulder and turned it to look at his brother. Slowly, he released his hold from around his sister and held out a surprisingly steady hand towards his brother, begging him with his eyes to join them.

He sighed but Dylan rose to his feet, appreciating the warm pat to his arm as Matty nearly pushed him forward. He wasn't big on displaying large amounts of family affection but it had been a very long time since the three of them piled onto their mother at once.

Curling his arm around his brother, Lleu felt Meme do the same to Dylan on the other side. Lleu and Meme clasped arms behind their brother, bringing him into the fold. Lleu lowered his head back to his mother's shoulder, closing his eyes as a low level purr vibrated his body. For once, in a long while, Lleu felt safe, warm, and content and he knew his siblings felt the same.

"I must make time for these gatherings more often." The older, pureblooded were-cat smiled as she embraced her children.

Lleu stayed silent but his content smile widened as he buried his face further into his mother's shoulder, his arms tightening on her and Dylan at the same time as he squeezed his sister's arm. He inhaled the combined scents of his family, his purr increasing in volume, creating a harmonizing vibration to go along with his siblings.

The sound of the front door opening along with a cold draft of wind interrupted them, causing all three kits heads to shoot up, their noses in the air and their attention drawn towards the hallway that led to the foyer. After a quick mental check of emotions, Lleu's face changed to one of abject happiness and relief.

"It's dad, pops, and James. They're better." He stated quietly.

"Better?" Lelandra took a step back to release her kits, giving her youngest triplet a inquisitive look. "Was something wrong with them?"

"Mom, when isn't there some bat crazy shit going on with those two?" Dylan's hand lingered on Lleu's arm for a moment longer before he went to sit back by Matty. "Should we get you to safety?"

"I can handle myself Dilly-boy." Matty winked, not looking worried in the least.

Lleu's eyes followed his brother for a moment before he turned back to his mother, opening his mouth to answer.

"Touch and I had a disagreement that caused our delay. But we've worked out our differences." Chaya walked into the living area, a smile on his tired face. It definitely looked as if the kit's father had gone through hell and back within the last few days. But then again, the man was so thin and had a metabolism so fast that it didn't take much to get him to look that way.

He was dressed in black leather pants that were low on his hips and slid down his legs to tuck into boots that went slightly past his knees and were adorned with multiple buckles and zippers. His shirt was more of a vest with the sleeves detached, held to the chest piece by three elastic clips. His longer hair was in its customary three braids, almost brushing the floor in their length while the shorter lengths went slightly past his shoulders. His cane, his almost constant companion, was in his right hand while his left was in the crook of Touch's elbow, seemed to hold the man in place.

"It's good to see you Lele." He smiled warmly at the mother of his children before turning his attention to the kits. "And sorry for the stress we put you all through."

"A disagreement? I have a feeling the whole truth is being neatly trimmed. I'll have to settle with that this holiday." She stayed where she was standing with long fingers folded in front of her.

The tension returned a moment when Touch, the only Live vampire in the entire cabin, saw Matty. Everyone could see the tall, brown haired vampire accessing. Then it was over with a small shrug and the barest of audible sighs - a sign of resignation from their second father.

"Who cares about those old men's arguments when your son has a new tag along." Dylan cut into the conversation by putting Nick on the table for judging in front of all three parents.

The barest frown on Touch's face and confusion turned into a true continence of annoyance as he stared Nick down.

"I saw the new face." Lelandra answered, first giving her youngest a lifted eyebrow.

Meme let out a large dramatic sigh and rolled her eyes before leaning her head against their mother's silk blouse. "Not that new. He just reeks of Lleu now."

"Yes, James filled us in on what we had missed on the way here." Chaya replied slowly but a small, warm smile was on his lips as he ran a hand slowly up and down his mate's arm.

Lleu thought it was amazing that his face didn't flare with embarrassment as his parent's attention settled on himself and Nick. Instead he was filled with anger towards his brother and gave Dylan a glare to show his displeasure at being made the center of attention, something he knew his brother was quite aware of his dislike for. But he knew that Dylan would do everything he could to sabotage his and Nick's budding relationship and resignation took the place of the anger.

"Daddy and Poppa have met him before but I'd like to introduce you to Nicolas Mama." He kept one arm wrapped around his mother as he looked towards Nick with an encouraging smile, holding out his hand for the nervous looking wolf to take.

Relieved to be out of the spotlight, Matty rolled his eyes to look at Dylan, pinching the jealous kit almost viciously in his side. It was a silent command to be good.

There was a sound from Dylan similar to a hiss of surprise before Nicolas stood up and took Lleu's hand. He felt his palms begin to sweat, knowing he was treading dangerous waters here.

"Hello." He began. "It's very nice to meet you."

Smiling softly, Lleu ran his thumb back and forth over the back of Nick's hand as his eyes closed so that they were only open to mere slits. He entered the surface of the wolf's mind, soothing his nervousness and anxiety. He didn't take it away completely, only made it more manageable. Afterwards, Lleu looked back up at his mother and gave her a hopeful smile, telling her with his eyes that the wolf made him happy. A small voice in his mind told him that while Nick may make him happy, he would never complete him like Dylan would but Lleu quickly shushed it.

Chaya turned his blank eyes towards his mate, tilting his head slightly as he silently told Touch that Nick was his wolf and that Chaya would base his own reaction on Touch's own. But there was also the underlying hint to not screw things up for their youngest.

"Why do we all seem to be drawn to the strange?" The Live vampire grumbled under his breath but didn't say another word.

"What do you mean by that?" Chaya muttered under his breath, giving his mate a mock glare.

"It's nice to meet you. It's good to see my son's heart happy." She shook the wolf's hand and gave him a small smile. "I hope he makes you happy too."

"Oh yes. I love to make him smile." Nick laughed as he squeezed Lleu's hand.

This time Lleu did blush, ducking his head down to hide his face behind his braids.

Matty turned towards Dylan but just so his back was to everyone else and made gagging faces as if he were going to throw up in his mouth.

"They're making enough noise at night that they're practically spreading the happiness forcefully." Meme finally left her mother's side and ran up to hug her fathers. "Oh, I was so worried! We're really going to have a Christmas together!"

Dylan shook his head, trying to calm his raging emotions before either empathic family member picked up on them.

And that comment was the last that Lleu could handle. He squeezed his mother one more time, mumbling a quick 'excuse me' as he used the distraction to escape the room. He quickly picked up on Dylan's fury as he passed his brother, using his own abilities to slap the rage down without any gentleness. Lleu let the living area, entering the dining room to only cross through it to the kitchen.
Christmas Eve!! Their mother shows up! As do their fathers! Some down right cattiness (pun intended) from Dylan and the holiday festivities begin!
